Are you Kidding Me?

September 2nd, 2008 by Farberoh

Ol’ Beanhead

Ol’ Beanhead

It’s Sunday August 31st and as I sit here shaking like the Waco kid, pepto bismal ring around my lips, I see the Headlines. “Chris Wells left game with Injury.” My first thought, “You should know this a-hole, you were in the stadium when it happened.” My second thought, “maybe I shouldn’t drink so much.” And just like that, a flash of memories rushed over me like a crashing wave. Chris Wells’ injury included.

I needed a moment. My head was pounding. Chris Wells injured, could that really have happened? What was he doing in the game? Why wasn’t that kid that has hair like the Predator playing in his stead? Why the hell were we playing Youngstown State? Who the hell is this woman in my bed? I knew the answer to that one. Never mind that now I thought, I’ll figure a way out.

Number one city in the country

August 30th, 2008 by Rick Turbo

It’s that time again. This Saturday a sleepy Midwestern town turns into the most electrifying city in the country. This blog is going to be filled with “subjective” opinions and clichés, however, being that the average reader worships a poison nut it only seems appropriate.

Part of what makes Ohio State football season so magical is the incredible amount we endure as Columbus, Ohio residents. It all starts in January when we bundle up under the covers, burn out our TiVo and DVR’s and consume mass quantities of Tommy’s pizza. As the grey slush accumulates on our roads and the sun takes a 4 month nap, every Columbus native is guilty of uttering the following words; “why the hell do I live in Columbus”? Fortunately, Thadmatta and his genius recruiting efforts allow us to take some solace in this otherwise bleak and desperate time. We then fast forward to April. People start to peak their heads outside as if they just endured a nuclear apocalypse. Patios start bustling, and men and women alike engage in somewhat futile attempts to exercise off all the beer, Wendy’s and bad Ohio pizza they have piled into their system over the previous months. Outdoor bars fill up with patrons, golf courses get trampled and the city starts to regain some level of momentum. Consequently, as a sports fan this is a veritable dead zone. The states two professional slow pitch softball teams, The Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds give us some semblance of early hope. Then they finally remember that they indeed are the Indians and the Reds and unwittingly fold. The spring fades into summer and our population starts to forget about months that end with an “aury”. As August finally approaches, we once again realize that we are bad golfers, and outdoor seating in Columbus is at a minimum. This is when we as bleeding Buckeye fans turn our attention to the most important thing in the world.

Hineygate – A Tradition of Epic Proportions

The Danger Brothers

The Danger Brothers

The Ohio State Buckeyes had an impressive 2007 Football season finishing 11-2 with a devastating loss to LSU in the BCS National Championship. Nonetheless, here we are preparing our hearts and minds for yet another season as a BCS contender in which the Buckeyes return with a more experienced squad capable of NCAA destruction. So, what does that mean to us? Well, it’s probably time to throw a party…

Hineygate, dubbed the largest tailgate in the nation, was born 25 years ago and has become a party of epic proportions. How big is it you ask? Well, Hineygate has it’s own house band (The Danger Brothers of course), attracts major sponsors (Budweiser), has food stands from local fares (Scmidt’s Sausage Haus), is the subject of a book (Hineygate: Tales from the Dark Side), has been know to make women remove their bra’s in volume (The Danger Brothers Collected 90 of them from their stage against Wisconsin circa 2005), and attracts 20,000 Buckeye fans on any given Saturday. That Big.

Chesrown Auto Group is the sole local sponsor of Hineygate and is a proud supporter of The Ohio State University’s athletic programs and the wonderful traditions that go with them. Thank you for visiting our website, we hope you enjoy browsing. Please check back regularly for more posts and tailgate galleries. Here are just a few pictures of friends (and fans) from last year. Thanks and Go Bucks!
